The route in figures

  • Start: Bici n'Roses - Santa Margarida (Roses)
  • Distance: 27.9 km
  • Estimated running time: 2h16 (not including breaks)
  • Average speed: 12.3 km/h
  • Vertical drop: 70 m (perfect for beginners)

Stage 1: Heading for the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park

As soon as you leave Santa Margarida, head for the Parc Naturel des Aiguamolls de l'Empordà, one of the most beautiful natural areas on the Costa Brava. Here, you pedal along flat paths surrounded by marshes, where you can observe migratory birds, horses and maybe even a few deer. Remember to take a break to enjoy the scenery, and get out your binoculars if you're into birdwatching.

Stage 2: Along the Empuriabrava canals

After this natural immersion, it's time for a more picturesque atmosphere as we head for Empuriabrava, often referred to as the "Venice of the Costa Brava". With its 25 km of navigable canals, it's a unique setting in Spain. Cycle along the canals, discovering the magnificent villas and moored boats. Why not take a break on a terrace overlooking the water?

Stage 3: Follow the river La Muga to Castelló d'Empúries

Leaving Empuriabrava, you continue your ride along the La Muga river, a peaceful route surrounded by greenery. The water sparkles in the sunshine, and birdsong accompanies your pedaling. A few kilometers later, you arrive in Castelló d'Empúries, a charming medieval town.

Stage 4: Nature break at Butterfly Park Empuriabrava

Before setting off again, you'll want to stop off at Butterfly Park Empuriabrava, a tropical park where you can admire butterflies, parrots and other exotic birds. Some will even land on your shoulder, offering a magical and unforgettable moment for young and old alike!

A smooth return to Roses

After this beautiful interlude, it's time to get back on the road to Santa Margarida. The advantage of this route is that it's accessible all year round. A word of advice: in July and August, some of the road sections may be busier than others, so if you prefer a quieter ride, opt for spring or autumn.
